Venosta Valley & Merano Sun and culture galore, on your South Tyrolean holiday

The Venosta Valley forms the uppermost part of the Etschtal Valley in South Tyrol; it is the province’s cultural centre. With regard to climate, the Venosta Valley is one of the driest regions in Europe and is known for its many sunny days. The Schnalstal Valley is, orographically viewed, a side valley of the Venosta Valley which begins shortly after Naturno/Naturns. The Venosta Valley is known for its centuries-old irrigation channel paths, lovely hiking trails in the Stelvio National Park, excellent mountain bike trails and a unique variety of culture. Its proximity to Merano/Meran lends it an Alpine-Mediterranean spa-town flair, just minutes away from Oberraindlhof by car.

Juval Castle – Messner Mountain Museum

Juval Castle, perched high on a mountain, towers over the entrance to the Schnalstal Valley. This medieval fortress belongs to Reinhold Messner. The arguably most famous South Tyrolean (after Ötzi, the Iceman) has lived here since 1983 and has in the meantime opened his castle for public visits.

In the town centre, little boutiques alternate with farmers’ markets – here you’ll find something for everyone. Elisabeth, Empress of Austria (aka „Sissi“) was a fan of the place.
