Mountain Biking & road biking in the Schnalstal Valley

The Schnalstal Valley, due to its being so narrow, is not a classic mountain bike region for all. For very fit mountain bikers, however, there are several very attractive MTB tours that are scenically interesting with steep ascents, single tracks at 3,000 m and crazy downhill rides. The neighbouring Venosta Valley is better known as a mountain biking region, and offers tours of all degrees of difficulty. For pleasant cycling without much change in elevation, the Venosta Valley Cycle Path at the entrance to the Schnalstal Valley is just the right choice.

Touring and more

The Schnalstal Valley has high Alpine MTB tours which go up to Klosteralm, Penauder Alm and to the Lazaunhütte. Other tours, on accessible forest roads:

  • Kurzras – Lazaun over the toboggan run
  • Unser Frau – Mastaunalm
  • Unser Frau – Lafetz Alm
  • Karthaus – Kloster Alm
  • Karthaus – Penauder Alm
  • Vorderkas – Eishof (crossing to the Passeiertal Valley)

Road bike tours

It only takes 10 minutes to reach the entrance to the Schnalstal Valley from the hotel. From here, racing bike fans will find countless options. Whether it’s an easy ride past splendid orchards and meadows or a breathtaking ride over a pass – cycling in the Venosta Valley has a lot to offer for cycling pros, families, and beginners alike.

A ride up through the Schnalstal Valley – from 550 m to 2,011 m — is quite a workout, and the crowning completion for an exciting cycling holiday at Oberraindlhof.
