Do you know what I thank the inventors of the mobile phone for every single day? For a good night’s sleep! There was a time when things would get really lively as soon as the moon rose behind the Tschigat: Love-struck lads would sneak up, throw pebbles at my windows, climb up ladders, and in the morning the girls would scurry across the courtyard with blissful smiles. These days, people text instead of throwing things. But there are no fewer love stories under my old roof. I’ll tell you four of them today:
Anton and Aloisia: The moustache and the moss-green eyes
Around 1900, Anton Raffeiner stood in my parlour for the first time as the master of the house. He had the finest moustache far and wide, and by his side was a woman whom everyone up here loved to gaze at: his Aloisia, with her moss-green eyes. Even the most inquisitive of relatives could never quite work out exactly how the two of them found each other. But that doesn’t matter. You don’t need to know the details of some love stories to sense that they were meant to be. My staff like them so much that they’ve even named a few of my rooms after the dream couple. You can see Anton and Aloisia here.
Helmuth and Elisabeth: The shy brother has to dance
Helmuth was certainly no dancer. But his sister Romana needed a dance partner for her friend Elisabeth, so, whether he liked it or not, he had to dig out his dancing shoes. One evening around Christmas time, he picked the two ladies up at the ‘Tschellfigg’ by the reservoir, they danced until the soles of their shoes were glowing, and the lively Elisabeth asked him on the way home why he was so shy. That was pretty much it for him. And it wasn’t long after that before Helmuth brought his Elisabeth up to see me. How lovely that she stayed!
Benjamin and Andrea: Good things take time
Do you know that old hit, “A thousand times we touched … a thousand times nothing happened …”? That was Benjamin and Andrea – they’d known each other for ages. Then came Wine Week 2017, and a member of staff (also called Benjamin, by the way) brought Andrea into the restaurant as a last-ditch effort to help out. He took his time for a whole year, but in 2018 Benjamin asked his Andrea out on a first date. And it soon became clear that the two of them would pour their heart and soul into my old house together. I always say: sometimes you just need the right phone call at the right time.
Patrick and Sabrina: It ‘clicks’ during the photo shoot
It took a long time for Patrick and his Sabrina to really hit it off, too. There were sparks every now and then, but never for long enough. Then came that memorable day when a photoshoot took place here at my place. Sabrina stood in front of the camera and showed herself at her best. And who was head over heels in love? My Patrick. By that day at the latest, it was clear to him: he had to win this woman over. The fact that Sabrina’s boyfriend at the time was present at the photo shoot didn’t deter him. And indeed: today she is his.
And now it’s your turn! Have you fallen in love? My courtiers are looking forward to hearing your stories: info@oberraindlhof.com
